The convenience an oven affords your kitchen is undeniable. Not only do you have a myriad of cooking options, but it also can be used to warm leftovers without having to physically recook them on the stovetop. However, just like a range of other major appliances in your home, the oven is susceptible to wear and tear. This could lead to inconsistent meal times or not having your food as thoroughly cooked as you would like. Some of the signs to look for if you suspect your oven is malfunctioning include the following:

  • No heat emanating from the appliance
  • The model not attaining the set temperature
  • Undercooked food
  • A broken timer
  • And more

When you start noticing these and other symptoms, most people will typically assume that all they need are oven repairs. However, in some cases, it may prove to be cheaper to simply replace the appliance with a new one rather than constantly repair it. Here are some things to keep in mind in when establishing whether you require oven repairs or would be better off with a replacement.

Is the oven broken?

In some instances, you may find that a component attached to the oven has malfunctioned and that is why it is not working. This could range from a circuit breaker that has tripped, to a malfunctioning surge protector, to a plug that has shorted and more. The best way to go about this is to use the manual to troubleshoot any common problems that could affect your oven and try to find a solution. If this does not work then you should call in a technician to determine if the oven can be fixed or it would require to be replaced.

Does the oven have a history of being problematic?

If you have been regularly encountering problems with your oven, chances are it is past its shelf life and you would be better off replacing it with a new one. Not only will this increase the efficiency of your cooking, but you could also save on your utility bills, as a faulty appliance tends to use more power. Alternatively, if your oven has always been working well, then oven repairs may suffice to get it back to optimum working conditions.

Is the oven outdated?

One thing to note is that these appliances tend to last for a significant period of time. As such, with the advancements in technology, you may find that your model has become outdated. If this is the case, you may be better off replacing it with a model that offers you a range of newer features rather than opting for oven repairs.
